Ontario officials urge farmers to be safe stewards after cluster of barn fires

In the wake of a devastating barn fire in London that killed more than 2,000 pigs, safety officials are reminding farm and barn owners that the risk of fire is very real, especially in the winter when property fires peak – both residential and commercial.

Though barn fires aren’t as common as residential, at least one happens somewhere in Ontario virtually every year. According to the Ontario Fire Marshal, the annual expense of responding to these emergencies costs the province approximately $25 million annually.
